Acquisitions: Michael’s

Took a trip to Michael’s over the weekend. We had a birthday present to buy for one of my son’s friends and had been told by his mom that he wanted some robot craft thing. Don’t see it in the picture do you. Yeah, this is a picture of everything else that we purchased besides the birthday gift!

Included are:

  • 1-Faber-Castell PITT artist pen XS
  • 1-Real Simple Magazine
  • 1-Strathmore Windpower™ Sketchbook6.25″x 8.5″ ( 89 g/m² )
  • 1-Strathmore 300 Series Sketchbook3.5″ x 5″ ( 74 g/m² )
  • 6-Michael’s Journals ( 9mm line spacing with various covers )
  • 1-pack of 4 pencils
  • 2-packs of rub on stickers that match the journal covers

Both sketchbooks and the pencils are for my son. I’m pretty sure that if it went his way, the entire rainforest would be green lit to be made into sketchpads and pencils. Not kidding. I have a 2 inch stack of paper next to my desk right now of his drawings that took him 4 days. The Windpower™ Sketchbook has 70 sheets and the smaller sketchpad has 100. We got the smaller one for on-the-go to keep in the car, but I’m sure the larger one will be full by the end of the week. It’s great that he prefers drawing and coloring to TV though. He’s only 3 but he’ll sit there for hours. Love it.

The Michael’s journals were in the $1 bin and were picked up on the way out. They were $1.50 though. I will be reviewing those shortly. Based on what I’ve seen of them so far, I’ll probably be giving some away. Stay tuned.

Inkling Trailer

This is awesome. Makes me wish I was an artist.

Be sure to check out the making of video as well.

UPDATE: I was finally able to embed this thing. Chrome was giving me some problems. Enjoy.

Megabolt

Megabolt raises money to help kids with their hospital bills. If you buy a sketchbook, another is sent to a child in a hospital. They are all numbered so you can see who you bought the book for. After the child completes sketching in the book, it will be uploaded so you can virtually flip through the pages to see what they drew.

Through the creation of art, Megabolt is empowering kids to find strength to keep fighting through their illness.

They just started a blog and you can get yourself a sketchbook, and help a child in need, by visiting the Megabolt store here. I think I’ll get the 3-pack.

Thanks to Emily at Burly/Girly for the find.

One Dollar Notebooks – Canson Pop Sketch

While picking up more material at Joann’s I walked passed the bargain bin section and saw these sketch notebooks by Canson. I’d never heard of that brand, since I’m not an artist, so after picking up several of them (at 97 cents a pop – ha ha) I did some research.

From their main site I found out that Canson has been producing fine quality art paper for more than 500 years. Who knew?

“Today, Canson is the only supplier of fine art materials to manufacture them, ensuring consistency and quality artists continue to reply on. From student grade papers for developing technique to professional papers, Canon and Arches offer materials to enhance every creative expression.”

Their words. (including typos) Sounds good to me. Here’s what I got on the write up at Art Supplies Online about the specific sketchbooks that I purchased.

“The POP Sketch mini sketch books feature colorful, bold and eye-catching designs. Measuring 3-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, the sketch books contain 40 sheets of 70 lb. micro-perforated drawing paper and have glossy laminated covers with a unique match book style closure.”

Like I stated, I’m not an artist, but my son likes to draw on everything under the Sun so I got several of them for him. The paper is nice and thick (70#) and the micro-perforation helps the pages tear out cleanly. They are available with many different covers with art by Robert Nicol. At under a dollar each, I can’t complain.

Acquisitions – Exacompta & Habana

Exacompta Basic Sketchbook & Black Quo Vadis Habana

Here’s my latest order from The Goulet Pen Company. I ordered an Exacompta Basic Sketchbook (5.5 x 8.25) and a Black QuoVadis Habana (6.25 x 9.25). The sketchbook I bought as a gift for a co-worker’s birthday but the Habana is for me. I bought it not only for the paper but for it’s size. I was looking for a notebook to be more of a Commonplace Book where I can not only write things about daily life but be able to paste articles or handouts of certain events that I’d like to keep track of and remember.
