Goulet Pens Order (& Edelstein Jade)

Here is a pic of my recent (and first) order from the Goulet Pen Company. Ladies and Gentlemen you might be looking at the last personal letter written by Brian Goulet which includes a wax seal on Triomphe stationery. That’s right, Brian is no longer writing full letters to his customers with every purchase. According to a recent video he simply does not have the time and from now on will only be writing a personal note on the invoice sans the wax seal. (Check out the video here).

My order was for ink from the new line by Pelikan called Edelstein. I ordered Jade. It was actually my second choice, I wanted Onyx but there was none in the country yet due to back order. I haven’t had the time yet to properly try it out but I will be posting a review of it soon. I’m also trying to decide which pen to ink up. (Decisions decisions.) In any case, I love The Goulet Pen Company for their awesome customer service and information and now that my PayPal account has more funds in it due to the selling off of unwanted items, I will be ordering that Onyx as soon as it gets in.

J. Herbin 1670

This week I received my bottle of J. Herbin 1670 from Pear Tree Pen Company. I was impressed. Not by the ink itself although it is pretty cool, but by Pear Tree’s exceptional customer service. Not only did my ink arrive super fast, they included a spare waxed cap with it. I’d never ordered ink before (I’m just starting to get into fountain pens and ink even though I have had a bad pen addiction for a long time) so I thought that maybe you were supposed to break the seal on the original cap and use the extra one from then on. But, when I looked at my receipt, I noticed that Ryan from Pen Tree had written me a full letter about the ink and why the cap was in there.

It seems that J. Herbin used a brittle wax on the first run of their 1670 and some of the them tended to crack. Just in case the cap that I was sent had a crack on it, which Ryan had no way of knowing because my box was factory shrink-wrapped, he sent an extra cap “dipped in a more pliable wax” as a backup. You can see part of the letter that he wrote in the pic below. (And yes, the wax was cracked on the cap that I received with the bottle.) In addition to writing me about the 1670 and the cap, he added a little note on the bottom right indicating which pen and ink he used to write the note!

Thanks Ryan and Pear Tree!

My J. Herbin 1670 ink and receipt/letter from Pear Tree Pens

(Sorry about the lighting in the pic, it was kind of spontaneously taken. Since I cut off the very bottom of the page, the ink used was Lamy Blue and the pen was a Pelikan M805 EF.)
