New Arrivals

Doane Paper has their new Leather Works covers for notebooks and jotters along with a 4 barrel holster for pens. Very nice, made in the U.S.A., genuine Horween® Chromexcel® leather. I’m considering the notebook cover. It might be a little wide for my pocket but I won’t know til I get it.

I’m ALWAYS looking for extra fine tip pens. When I saw these Mitsubishi Uni Pin Pens, I immediately added them to my wish list. I can’t wait to see the difference between the pigment and the oil-based inks next to each other.

And in case you haven’t heard, Pear Tree Pens is pulling up roots. So, they are clearing out their inventory. Their Special Deals section has turned into their Clearance Section and you’ll receive 1/3 off all the items in that section when you buy 3 or more. Hurry because the sale ends on October 1st. I picked myself up a trio of Rhodia and got 1/3 off each of these.

This is not a sponsored post and I am not affiliated in any way with the vendors that I mentioned above. I’m just pointing everyone in the direction of where to get the loot I like. If, in the future, one of these posts is sponsored, it will state it clearly at the beginning and the end.

Acquisitions: Michael’s

Took a trip to Michael’s over the weekend. We had a birthday present to buy for one of my son’s friends and had been told by his mom that he wanted some robot craft thing. Don’t see it in the picture do you. Yeah, this is a picture of everything else that we purchased besides the birthday gift!

Included are:

  • 1-Faber-Castell PITT artist pen XS
  • 1-Real Simple Magazine
  • 1-Strathmore Windpower™ Sketchbook6.25″x 8.5″ ( 89 g/m² )
  • 1-Strathmore 300 Series Sketchbook3.5″ x 5″ ( 74 g/m² )
  • 6-Michael’s Journals ( 9mm line spacing with various covers )
  • 1-pack of 4 pencils
  • 2-packs of rub on stickers that match the journal covers

Both sketchbooks and the pencils are for my son. I’m pretty sure that if it went his way, the entire rainforest would be green lit to be made into sketchpads and pencils. Not kidding. I have a 2 inch stack of paper next to my desk right now of his drawings that took him 4 days. The Windpower™ Sketchbook has 70 sheets and the smaller sketchpad has 100. We got the smaller one for on-the-go to keep in the car, but I’m sure the larger one will be full by the end of the week. It’s great that he prefers drawing and coloring to TV though. He’s only 3 but he’ll sit there for hours. Love it.

The Michael’s journals were in the $1 bin and were picked up on the way out. They were $1.50 though. I will be reviewing those shortly. Based on what I’ve seen of them so far, I’ll probably be giving some away. Stay tuned.

Acquisitions – Goulet Pens: Rhodia Planner & Unlimited Notebooks

I received my nice new Rhodia planner for 2012 from Goulet Pens. This year (2011) I was using a Moleskine but in 2012 I’m going to be writing on 90g, acid-free paper. The planner is slightly covered by the two Rhodia Unlimited Notebooks that were also part of the order.

Comparison between planners to be posted soon!

Acquisitions – Bunbodo

Last Saturday I helped a friend move to Torrance. That’s a little out of the way from where I live. On the way to his new house I drove passed the Mitsuwa Marketplace. Hoping that they might have a nice Japanese stationery store inside, I made a mental note of where I was and hoped that I could swing by before I drove back home. I managed to make it back there and discovered a very nice Japanese stationery store called Bunbodo. The Torrance Mitsuwa Marketplace seems to be the only one that has this store.

Bunbudo has  a lot of Japanese stationery, pens, and pencils. They also have cases full of higher end items like Lamy Fountain Pens and Filofax planners! It was kind of crowded in there so I didn’t take as many pics as I would have liked but they did also have an assortment of inks, refills, leads, notebooks, journals, greeting cards, envelopes, and ornaments. I picked up some notebooks and pens this time around.

Almost got these for my son. They're in a nice metal case.

The Lamy Case. Click to supersize.

My haul

Four notebooks with various rulings, 3 Uni-ball Signo DX 0.28mm (Blue-Black, Brown-Black, & Black) and a Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 in Silver.

Acquisitions – JetPens: Hi-Tec-C & Rotring 600

Pic taken with my phone. I'll take a better one for the Rotring review.

Got my latest order from JetPens!

From left to right:

  • Rotring 600 0.5 Mechanical Pencil
  • Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink 0.4mm Clear Blue
  • Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink 0.4mm Blue Black
  • Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink 0.4mm Apricot Orange
  • Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink 0.4mm Apple Green
  • Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink 0.4mm Strawberry

In getting with “the organizing”, Angela wanted to have several different colors for our calendar to designate certain items in our schedules. We had all of the Hi-Tec-Cs in 0.3mm but they weren’t showing up very well on the glossy calendar so we upped the tip size.

So far I love the weight of the Rotring 600. It writes smoothly, it’s black, it’s heavy, and it’s metal! When I ordered mine there were 2 left in stock. No shock that they are out of stock now, but they still have the silver body!

Acquisitions – Staples (Rewards)

SO! I finally logged on to Staples Rewards to check and see how much I had racked up. I was surprised to see that I had $16.00 waiting for me on there. I didn’t know that I bought so much.

Anyway, I picked up a pack of Sharpie Pens, a pack of Zebra M-301 0.5mm mechanical pencils, and 3 packs of 0.5mm HB pencil lead and only had to shell out a little over $4 out of pocket. Sweet!

Acquisitions – Rhodia at Target

I had read on several blogs that Rhodia notebooks were available at Target and I finally saw some. I picked up an A4 (21cm x 29.7cm) staplebound lined notebook with black cover (they also had the orange cover in stock) and the No. 11 Notepad (7.4cm x 10.5cm) with grid lines. Both have the 80g paper that seems to be the Rhodia standard. Very nice. These are going into the review queue.

Acquisitions: Staples (or Brad = Enabler)

Once I saw The Pen Addict’s video post about the G-Tec-C and the Sharpie pens that are now at Staples I had to run out and get some. I don’t know about how much Brad paid for them but in California they had the Sharpie pens down to $2 a pack AND they were buy one get one free!
